NEW SERVICE AND FRAMEWORK INTEGRATES JUNIT™
WITH MERCURY INTERACTIVE'S TESTDIRECTOR®
Arsin® Effecta™ Integration
Framework for TestDirector speeds integration of third-party tools,
lowers TestDirector deployment costs.
SANTA CLARA, CA — May 22, 2003 — Arsin
Corporation today launched a new professional service offering that
aims to lower the adoption costs that Mercury Interactive's customers
face when deploying TestDirector in a multi-vendor tool environment.
This professional services package leverages the new Arsin Effecta
Integration Framework for TestDirector to streamline and simplify
the steps required to integrate popular third-party tools such as
Segue's SilkTest® and the open source JUnit test tools.
Testing tools have traditionally been deployed as islands of automation,
with very little coordinated information flow happening between
the tools that are, in fact, participating in a larger, integrated
and managed process. This leads to inefficiencies and unnecessary
business risks. The new Arsin service packages Arsin-developed methods
and framework software that map a third-party tool's unique behavior
into messages and formats that TestDirector understands. TestDirector
can then perform tasks such as sending a suite of regression test
cases from its repository to JUnit or Segue SilkTest clients for
unattended execution, and receive tool and test case-specific pass/fail
results back for archival in the TestDirector repository and metrics
reporting. The Effecta Integration Framework extends standard "Open
Test Architecture" (OTA) Application Programming Interface
(API) provided by Mercury Interactive in TestDirector, thus ensuring
compatibility and support availability of third-party tool integration
investments.
"As software quality issues take on strategic importance to
more firms, it is natural that executives demand more streamlined
and automated tools to control software quality-related risks"
said Rutesh Shah, Vice-President Reliability Services Practice.
"The need to build bridges between deployed QA and testing
tools is a necessary and important first step to achieving this
vision. Our new service is a direct response to this need."
"Our Effecta Integration Framework is designed to support
the needs of a wide range of QA-related tools, including test requirements
tracking, defect tracking, automated GUI and component testing,
and test data management tools," said Dale Lampson, Vice-President
of Business Development. "Mercury Interactive already provides
the integration solution out of the box for the various tools in
their product lines. We aim to provide a similar capability and
know-how to Mercury's customers with heterogeneous tool environments."
Integration projects vary in duration and complexity. A typical
JUnit or SilkTest to TestDirector integration project using the
new Effecta Integration Framework can be rolled out in 2-3 weeks
and pay for itself within the first 6-9 months of use. A Fact
Sheet describing the service features is available on our website.
